A tuxedo should never be worn with a belt. Suspenders or adjustable side tabs are both acceptable but no belt.

@Jonas Å.: Hi Jonas! Thank you for your comment. You are right, I believe the word is suppose to be "Cummerbund", not a belt.

@Care of Carl: Well, the purpose of a cummerbund is not really to hold your pants up like a belt but rather to cover the waistband and the shirt's bottom end.
Not covering up the waistband usually results in a small area of the shirt ''peeking out'' below the button, which is distracting and traditionally considered a faux pas. So in terms of waist covering, your choice is between vest or cummerbund. Many would argue that the cummerbund goes better with a shawl lapel, whereas a vest is better paired with the more formal peak lapel. As far as holing your trousers up, you either go with suspenders or adjustable side tabs.
